Physical cultural studies is a way of learning about the relationships between our bodies, cultures, and society. Just like how we go to school to learn about math, science, and reading, we can go to school to learn about how our bodies move, how we play sports, and how we dance.
In physical cultural studies, we look at how different cultures have different ways of moving and playing, and how these practices can shape our bodies and identities. For example, we might study how people in Thailand practice Muay Thai, which is a type of martial art, or how people in Brazil play capoeira, which is a type of dance-fight.
We also learn about how physical activities can have different meanings in different places and times. For example, running might be seen as a way to compete in a race, or as a healthy way to exercise, or as a way to build community with others who like to run.
By studying physical cultural studies, we can better understand how our bodies and cultures shape each other, and how we can use physical activities to learn about ourselves and others.
