ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Physics and Beyond

Physics is the science that studies matter and energy and the rules that govern their behavior. It helps us understand the world around us, and how things work. For example, it explains why the stars shine and how electricity is produced. It even helps us understand how the universe began. Beyond that, there are things like astronomy, which studies the stars, planets, and other things in outer space, and quantum mechanics, which studies the tiny particles that make up everything. All of these things together make up the science of physics, and understanding these things helps us make and do new things every day.
