ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Piezoelectric speaker

Imagine you have a magic crystal that can make music if you squish it. That crystal is called a piezoelectric speaker.

Piezoelectric speakers use special crystals or ceramics that can create sound when you give them electricity. When the electricity flows through these crystals, they change shape a tiny bit, and that makes them vibrate or shake very fast. These quick vibrations are what create sound waves - which we hear as music or other sounds.

The crystal is shaped like a tiny plate or disc. There is one wire attached to one side of the crystal and another wire is attached to the other side of the crystal. The wires carry electricity to and from the crystal to make it squish or vibrate very quickly.

Piezoelectric speakers are different from regular speakers that use magnets and coils to make sound. They are often smaller and more durable than regular speakers, which makes them useful in many different types of devices like watches, phones, and medical equipment.

So, just remember that a piezoelectric speaker is a tiny crystal that can make sound when you give it electricity because it vibrates as fast as it can.
