ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Pilaster

Okay, kiddo. So, you know how buildings have these really tall and strong things called pillars that help support them? Well, sometimes people make fake pillars that stick out a little bit from the wall, and those are called pilasters.

Think of it like this: imagine if you drew a picture of a building on a piece of paper. You could draw some lines to make it look like there's a big pillar holding up part of the building. But what if you didn't want to draw a whole big pillar sticking out, just a little one that looks like a decoration? That's when you would draw a pilaster instead. It's like a pretend pillar that's part of the wall, but it looks just as fancy and important as a real one!
