ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Planarization

Planarization is like smoothing out a bumpy road so you can drive more easily on it. In a computer, you have a very small area where things are made or built called a chip. In order to make sure all the parts or pieces fit together properly and work well, the surface of the chip needs to be very smooth and even.

But sometimes, when we build things on top of the chip, like tiny wires, they can create bumps or hills, and that's not good. They can even touch and cause a short circuit, which means your computer won't work properly.

So we use planarization to smooth out these bumps, just like a construction worker would pour concrete on a bumpy road to make it smooth. In a computer, planarization is done by applying a special liquid or gas that dissolves the bumps and makes the surface flat again. This way, all the parts can fit together without any problems, and your computer can work the way it should.
