A platonic solid is a shape that has the same flat faces, edges (the lines where faces meet), and angles (the corners where edges meet) all the way around. Think about a dice. All the sides are the same size and shape, and the corners are all the same. That's a platonic solid. There are only five of these shapes, and they are named after the ancient Greek philosopher Plato who was the first person to describe them. These five shapes are called the tetrahedron, the cube, the octahedron, the dodecahedron, and the icosahedron. Each of them has a special kind of symmetry, which is why they are considered so interesting and unique. People have been fascinated by these shapes for thousands of years because they are some of the most fundamental and beautiful forms in the universe.
