ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Plummer v. State

Okay kiddo, let me explain Plummet v. State in a simple way.

Pretend you have a toy and your friend wants to play with it, but you don't want to share. One day, your friend grabs the toy without asking and starts playing with it. You get mad and tell your friend to give it back. This is just like the story of Plummet v. State.

A man named Plummet was pulled over by a police officer because he wasn't wearing a seatbelt. The police officer asked for Plummet's license and registration, but Plummet didn't want to give it to him. Plummet said that he didn't do anything wrong, and he didn't have to show his identification. The police officer didn't like this, and he arrested Plummet for not giving him his information.

Plummet went to court to argue that the police officer didn't have the right to arrest him because he didn't do anything wrong. The court had to decide whether Plummet had to show his identification to the police officer or not. The court decided that everyone has to show their identification to a police officer if they're asked to, even if they didn't do anything wrong. This is just like how you have to share your toy with your friend, even if you don't want to.

So, in Plummet v. State, the court said that if a police officer asks for your identification, you have to show it to them, even if you didn't do anything wrong.
