Point (typography)

A point is a unit of measurement used in typography. It is equal to 1/72 of an inch and is used to describe the size of type. When you see a font size listed in points, that means it's describing the size of the lettering in the font. For example, if a font is listed as size 10 point, it means that the lettering is 10/72 of an inch tall.
