ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Polar night

Polar night is a time of year when the sun won't come up at all in some places. Polar night happens in places like the North Pole and other places near the poles.
The reason for this is because these places are so far away from the sun that sometimes the sun doesn't even look like it's up. So these places can have entire days where the sun never comes out. This can last for weeks or months. Polar night can be dark and chilly, but some people like the peace and quiet it brings.
