Okay kiddo, today we are going to talk about the polarity of gender. Boys and girls (or men and women) have different physical and behavioral characteristics because of something called gender. Think of it as like how you wear different clothes according to whether it's hot or cold outside.
Gender is a social construct, which means it's something that people have agreed upon and created in society over time. Some people believe that gender is binary, which means there are only two options: male and female. Others, however, believe that gender is on a spectrum, and there are a lot of different ways to express gender that fall outside of just male and female.
The way people express their gender is called gender identity. Some people feel like they were born as the wrong gender, and they identify as something different than what they were assigned at birth. This is called being transgender.
What's really important to remember is that everyone deserves respect, no matter how they identify. It's okay for people to express themselves in different ways, and it's important for us to treat others with kindness and acceptance.
