ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Police escort

Imagine you are walking home from school and you see a police officer walking right beside you. This police officer is like your bodyguard for the day. They make sure you are safe as you walk and make sure no one is bothering you or causing any trouble.

Now imagine instead of walking, you are in a car. This time, the police officer isn't walking beside you, but is actually driving in front of you, clearing the way for your car to move safely and quickly. This is called a police escort.

Police escorts are used for special events, like when a VIP (Very Important Person) is coming to town or an ambulance needs to rush someone important to the hospital. The police officer will use their car's lights and sirens to get other cars out of the way and make sure the person they are escorting reaches their destination quickly and safely.

While police escorts are helpful and keep people safe, they can be very loud and disruptive to other drivers on the road. That's why they are only used when it is very important and necessary.
