Political dynasties in the Philippines

Okay, so imagine you have a family. The dad is a politician and people like him because he helps the community. When he gets older, he decides to retire or stop being a politician. Instead of letting someone else take his place, he asks his son to become a politician and take his place. Now, if the son does a good job, people will start to like him too and maybe vote for him when he grows up. So then, when the son grows up, he becomes a politician and people vote for him because they remember his dad being a good politician. This is what we call a political dynasty.

In the Philippines, there are many families who are like this. They have been in power for a long time because they keep passing their position to their children or other family members. Some people like this because they trust the family and know what to expect. Other people don't like this because they think it's not fair that one family has all the power and opportunities. So there are debates about whether political dynasties should be allowed or whether we should have more diversity in our leaders.
