Political theology is a type of study that looks at the relationship between political systems (such as a government) and religious beliefs. It looks at how religion shapes the way governments make decisions and how different religious beliefs may have an impact on public policies and laws. For example, a religious group may believe that certain laws should be put in place to protect the rights of its followers, or that a certain type of government should be maintained in order to ensure the well being of its citizens. People who study political theology try to understand why people in a certain society make the decisions they do and how these decisions affect society.
