ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Population cycle

A population cycle is when the population of a species either grows or shrinks over time. It's like a roller coaster — there are highs and lows when it comes to population size. For example, if there are more bugs in an area than usual one year, the population might go up for a few years before it starts to decline. This decline in population might go on until there aren't many bugs left, then the process will start all over again!
