Porter's chair

A porter's chair is a special type of chair that was used a long time ago by people called porters. Porters were kind of like helpers who helped rich people get around and carry things like suitcases and bags. The porter's chair was made to help the porters do their job even better.

The chair looks very different from regular chairs. It has a big, round back that goes all the way up to your head. The sides of the chair are also really tall and go up to your shoulders. If you sit in a porter's chair, you would feel like you are inside a little room all by yourself!

The reason for this big, round shape is to protect people from drafts. A long time ago, houses didn't have central heating like we do now. So if the weather was cold or windy, people would feel very cold, especially when they were sitting still. The porter's chair kept people warm and cozy by keeping the cold air out.

Nowadays, people don't use porter's chairs very often anymore. But they are still sometimes used in fancy restaurants or hotel lobbies to give people a feeling of luxury and exclusivity. Sometimes, they are also used for decoration or as a cozy reading nook in people's homes.
