The Portuguese Colonial War was a long war fought in Portugal's African colonies from 1961 to 1974. It started because the people living in the colonies wanted to be independent from Portugal and make their own government. Portugal didn't want them to do this and tried to keep control. Eventually, the colonies got their independence and the war ended. During the war, many people were killed and injured, families were separated, and cities and villages were destroyed. It was a very difficult time for everyone involved.
