Portuguese language in Asia

Ok kiddo, so you know that there are many different languages in the world, right? Well, a really long time ago, people from Portugal (which is a country in Europe) started to travel to different parts of the world to trade and explore. One of the places they went to was Asia, which is a really big continent with lots of different countries.

When the Portuguese went to Asia, they brought their language with them. This means that they taught people in Asia how to speak Portuguese, so that they could communicate with each other. Over time, some people in Asia started speaking Portuguese as their main language, and it even became an official language in some places!

One country where Portuguese is still spoken today is East Timor. East Timor used to be a colony of Portugal, which means that Portugal owned it and controlled it for a long time. Even though East Timor is independent now, lots of people there still speak Portuguese as their first language.

Another place where Portuguese had a big influence is Macau. Macau is a small island off the coast of China, and it was also a colony of Portugal for a long time. Portuguese was an official language there until the late 1990s, and it still has a strong presence in the culture and history of the island.

So that's a little bit about how Portuguese language made its way to Asia, and how it's still spoken in some places today. Pretty cool, huh?
