Positron emission tomography

Positron emission tomography (PET) is a special medical technique used to make pictures of the inside of your body. During a PET scan, a doctor will give you a tiny amount of a safe radioactive material. That material travels in your bloodstream to different parts of your body. As it goes, the material gives off positrons, which are special tiny particles. These positrons make it possible for the doctor to see how your body is working.
