Okay kiddo, do you remember learning about a guy named Sigmund Freud? He was a psychologist who came up with different ideas about how people’s minds work. One of his most famous ideas was that our childhood experiences can shape the way we act and think as adults.
Well, after Freud died, some other psychologists started to think differently about his ideas. They believed that there were other things that could affect how we think and act that weren’t just related to our childhood.
This new way of thinking is called post-Freudianism. Post means “after,” so it’s like saying “after Freud.” It’s still about how our minds work, but it’s not just focusing on our childhood.
Post-Freudianism focuses on things like our relationships with other people, our culture, and society as a whole. These things can also affect how we act and think as adults.
So, just like how Freud believed our childhood experiences shaped us, post-Freudians believe that our experiences throughout our lives can shape us too. They also believe that we can change and grow as people throughout our lives, not just during childhood.
Does that make sense, sweetie?
