Potlatch

Potlatch is a type of tradition practiced by Indigenous peoples in the Pacific Northwest of North America. It involves people coming together and giving each other gifts as a way of expressing love and gratitude. People give each other food, blankets, and other gifts. Everyone who attends the potlatch also gains important economic, political and spiritual status within their community. This is because the act of giving teaches people valuable lessons about how to treat each other, how to take care of the land, and how to continue traditions of generosity. Potlatch ceremonies are a way for Indigenous peoples to honor their past, celebrate the present, and plan for the future.
