ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Power inverter

A power inverter is a device that helps us change the electricity that we have in our homes (which comes from power outlets) into a different form of electricity that we can use to power things that normally run on batteries, like toys or small appliances.

It works kind of like a magic wand – when you wave it, it can turn the regular electricity that comes out of our walls (which is called "AC" electricity) into a special type of electricity that is best for things like cars, boats, or camping equipment (which is called "DC" electricity).

Think of it like changing a big round pizza into tiny slices of pizza that can fit into a smaller box. The power inverter takes the big, round electricity from the power outlet, and then converts it into small slices of electricity that can fit whatever toy or appliance we want to use.

So, if you're ever in a place with no power outlets (like on a camping trip), you can use a power inverter to create your own electricity for the things you need to use!
