ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Pragmatic theory of truth

Okay kiddo, have you seen a map before? Like the one we use when we go on a road trip?

When we use a map, we look at it and say, "This is true. This is where we are." But imagine if we use a map that has the wrong information on it. We might get lost and not find our way to our destination.

This is where the Pragmatic Theory of Truth comes in. It says that something is true if it works, if it helps you to get what you want or achieve your goals. In other words, if something works and helps you to do something right, then it is true.

For example, if someone says, "This is the best way to bake cookies," but it doesn't work when you try it, then it is not true. But if you try another recipe and it works, then it is true.

So, the Pragmatic Theory of Truth is all about how practical and useful something is, and if it helps you to achieve your goals.
