Prayer nut

Okay kiddo, have you ever heard of a prayer nut? It’s like a tiny, special kind of box that has some very important things inside. It’s usually made out of a hard material like ivory or wood.

People a long, long time ago used these prayer nuts as a way to keep their prayers close to them. They believed that by holding it and saying their prayers, it would help protect them and keep them safe.

The prayer nut is really small, like the size of a peanut or even smaller. When you open it up, there are usually tiny little scenes carved inside or sometimes even a small figure of a person or a saint. These were meant to help people remember different stories from their religion or from the Bible.

So, people would hold their prayer nut and maybe say a few special words to themselves or to their God. Some people might even wear it around their neck or keep it in their pocket all day long, so they could keep their prayers close to them all the time.

So that’s a prayer nut - a tiny box with important things inside, that people used a long time ago to keep their prayers close and to help protect them.
