ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Presentation layer

The presentation layer is like a special helper that helps people and machines understand each other better! When we send information from one place to another, like sending a message to our friends through the computer, we use different codes and formats to make sure the message is sent correctly.

Just like how we use different languages to communicate with people from different countries, computers also have their own ways of talking to each other using special codes called protocols. The presentation layer helps to make sure these codes are properly translated, so that people and computers can understand each other better while communicating.

For example, when we send a picture or a video through the internet, the presentation layer makes sure that the video or picture is in the right format to be seen on your device. It also makes sure that any extra data that's not needed is removed before getting sent across the network, making it easier and faster to send the information.

Overall, the presentation layer is like a helpful friend who makes sure that we can send and receive information clearly and easily between us and our devices!
