ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Priesthood (Ancient Israel)

Okay kiddo, have you ever heard of a priest? In Ancient Israel, they had special people called priests who had jobs that were very important.

Their job was to take care of the Temple, which was like the church of the Israelites. They had to make sure the Temple was clean, the candles were lit, and the sacrifices were made correctly.

Now, you might be wondering what a sacrifice is. Well, it's when they would bring animals like sheep or cows to the Temple and give them to the priests. The priests would then offer the animal to God as a way of saying thank you or asking for forgiveness.

Priests were also responsible for making sure people followed God's rules. If someone broke a rule, the priests would tell them and help them to make things right with God.

Being a priest was very special and not just anyone could do it. Only certain families were allowed to be priests, and they had to follow strict rules and laws to become one.

So, in short, priests in Ancient Israel had important jobs, like taking care of the Temple, making sure sacrifices were made correctly, and helping people follow God's rules.
