ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Priming (media)

Priming is like putting on sunscreen before going outside to protect your skin from the sun. When you read, watch, or listen to something in the media, it can influence your thoughts and behavior without you even realizing it. This is called priming.

Just like how sunscreen protects your skin, media priming can "protect" your mind from being influenced by outside sources. For example, if you watch a lot of violent TV shows or movies, you may start to think that violent behavior is okay, and you might be more likely to act aggressively in real life.

On the other hand, if you watch a lot of positive or uplifting media, it can influence you to be more positive and happy in your own life. That's why it's important to be mindful of the types of media you consume, and to choose content that aligns with your values and beliefs.
