Prisoners' rights are special rights that prisoners in jail or in prison have, that other people outside of prison don't have. These rights are important to help protect the people living in prison from being treated unfairly by the people in charge. Every prisoner is guaranteed certain rights like the right to medical care, the right to be free from cruel and unusual punishment, the right to practice their religion, and the right not to be discriminated against because of their race, religion, gender, or sexual orientation. Prisoners also have the right to communicate with loved ones, the right to education and access to recreation. Although these rights are in place, prisoners may not always have access to them and it is important to hold prisons accountable for protecting these rights.
