Procedure code

A procedure code is like a name for a certain type of medical treatment or procedure. Doctors and healthcare providers use procedure codes to make sure that everyone involved in a patient's care (like the doctor, insurance company, and hospital) are all talking about the same thing. For example, if the doctor does a procedure to remove someone's appendix, they might give it the code '47100', so that everyone knows that the procedure was an appendix removal.
