ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Process area (CMMI)

Okay kiddo, imagine a big building that makes really cool toys. But to make these cool toys, there is a lot of work that needs to be done, like designing the toy, getting materials for it, making it, and testing it.

The grown-ups in charge of making the toys want to make sure that everyone working on these toys knows what they need to do and how to do it correctly. So, they created a set of rules and guidelines for everyone who works in the building.

These rules and guidelines are called process areas in the CMMI model. Each process area is like a separate room in the building where people do specific tasks related to making the toys.

For example, in the room named "Product Design", the grown-ups responsible for designing the toys make sure they have everything they need to create a detailed plan for how each toy will look and work. In another room called "Product Engineering," the workers make sure they have the right tools and materials to create the toy exactly as it was designed.

And finally, in the testing room, they check if the toy works as it should before it goes out for sale.

So, process areas in the CMMI model help everyone in the building know what they need to do and how to do it correctly. And when everyone follows these rules and guidelines, they can make supercool toys that kids will love playing with.
