Profilometer

A profilometer is a machine that helps people measure and see the size and shape of surfaces, like ones on toys, tables, and other things we use in our daily lives.

Think of the profilometer like a magnifying glass that moves over the surface of the object you want to measure. The machine has a little pen attached to it, and this pen touches the surface.

The pen moves up and down with the machine, touching the surface gently. As it does, it creates a picture of the surface. The machine then uses this picture to tell us how much smoother or bumpier the surface is.

It's a little bit like drawing a picture with a crayon, only the pen is really small and the pictures are very detailed.

People use profilometers to check surfaces to make sure they are smooth and safe to use, or to see if a surface needs to be adjusted. It's an important tool for people who work with machines, toys, or other products that need to meet a certain standard of quality.
