Profit motive

Profit motive is when somebody wants to earn money. It's a reason why people do certain things. For example, a shop owner might open up a store because they want to make a profit--they want to earn money by selling things to people. People who have a profit motive might be willing to take risks or work hard because they know that there is money to be made.
