Alright kiddo, have you heard of oil sands? In some parts of the world like Canada, we have really big deposits of something called oil sands.
Now, oil sands are a mixture of sand, clay, water and a thick type of oil called bitumen that is stuck in between the sand and clay. They are found deep underground and are dug up using big machines.
Project Oilsand is when people take these oil sands and try to turn the bitumen into usable oil that we can put in our cars and trucks. The process is called "extracting" the oil from the sand.
To extract the oil, they use a lot of hot water and steam to separate the oil from the sand. This is a complicated process that requires a lot of energy and special equipment. After the oil is separated from the sand, it is refined and cleaned to make it usable fuel for things like cars, trucks, and airplanes.
While project oilsand provides a lot of oil to help keep our world moving, it can also have a big impact on the environment. Extracting oil sands can create a lot of pollution and uses a lot of energy, which isn't very good for the planet. People are always trying to find new and better ways to extract oil from oil sands without causing too much harm.
