Protestantism is a type of Christianity – which is a religion. In China, many people practice a different type of Christianity called Catholicism. Protestantism started in Europe and is different than Catholicism, but both types of Christianity share many teachings and beliefs. Protestantism started to become more popular in China since the late 1800s and today, there are many Protestant churches, schools and communities all across the country. People practice Protestantism in China for the same reasons people practice it everywhere else - to be part of a religious community, to learn more about Jesus and God, and to grow spiritually.
