Proto-Indo-European religion is a collection of beliefs and practices that were shared by people who spoke the Proto-Indo-European language. The Proto-Indo-European people believed in gods called 'dyus pəter', who were thought to watch over people and keep them safe. They also believed in nature spirits, luck, and fate. Rituals and sacrifices were performed to honor the gods and ask for blessings. Sacrifices were usually animals, crops, or even humans in some cases. Proto-Indo-European religion was seen as a way to make sense of a mysterious and sometimes hostile world.
