Okay, kiddo, imagine you're looking at the ocean and there's a big ring of corals sticking out of the water. This is called an atoll. But sometimes, people say there's something called a "pseudo-atoll" and that can be confusing.
So, a pseudo-atoll is kind of like an atoll, but instead of being formed by coral growing on top of a volcano that's sinking down, it's formed by coral growing on top of a ridge or a high point on the ocean floor. The coral still grows in a circle, but it's not because the land is sinking down.
Basically, it's like if you made a big circle of toys on a table. If the table was sinking down in the middle, that would be like a regular atoll. But if you made the circle on a big, tall tower in the middle of the table, that would be more like a pseudo-atoll.
Does that make sense, kiddo?
