ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Pseudoenzyme

Okay kiddo, first let's talk about enzymes. Enzymes are like little workers in our bodies that help our cells do different jobs. Think of them like machines that can help break down food or even build new things.

Now, a pseudoenzyme is like a pretend worker. It looks like an enzyme and even has a similar shape, but it can't actually do any work. It's like a toy tool that looks like a hammer but can't really pound in any nails.

Scientists have discovered that some pseudoenzymes actually play an important role in our bodies, even though they don't do any work. They can act as signals or messengers and help control how our cells work together.

So, while they may not be doing any physical "work" like other enzymes, pseudoenzymes still have an important job to do in helping our bodies function properly. Did that make sense, little one?
