Psychiatric disorders of childbirth

When a woman has a baby, sometimes she can have feelings that make her sad or anxious. These feelings are called psychiatric disorders of childbirth. They happen because giving birth can be really hard and emotional.

There are different kinds of psychiatric disorders of childbirth. One is called postpartum depression. This is when a woman feels really sad, doesn't want to eat or do things she used to like, and has trouble taking care of her baby. Another is called postpartum anxiety. This is when a woman feels very worried or scared all the time, even when nothing is wrong.

These disorders can be very serious and can last a long time if not treated. Sometimes, a woman might need medicine or therapy to help her feel better. It's important for women to know that it's OK to talk about these feelings and to get help. Asking for help doesn't mean you're a bad mom or that something is wrong with you. It's just part of taking care of yourself and your baby.
