Okay kiddo, in Croatia, we have special days called public holidays that we get to take off from school or work to celebrate.
There are 13 public holidays in Croatia:
1. New Year's Day (January 1st): We celebrate the start of the new year with fireworks and special foods.
2. Epiphany (January 6th): This is when we celebrate the arrival of the Three Wise Men who brought gifts to baby Jesus.
3. Easter Monday: This is the day after Easter Sunday where we continue to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus.
4. May Day (May 1st): This is a celebration of workers and laborers.
5. Corpus Christi (May/June): This is a Catholic holiday where we celebrate the presence of Jesus in the Holy Eucharist.
6. Anti-Fascist Resistance Day (June 22nd): This is a day where we remember and honor the people who fought against fascism in World War II.
7. Statehood Day (June 25th): This is the day that Croatia declared its independence from Yugoslavia in 1991.
8. Assumption of Mary (August 15th): This is when we celebrate the day when Mary, mother of Jesus, was assumed into heaven.
9. All Saints' Day (November 1st): This is a day where we honor and remember all the saints in the Catholic Church.
10. Remembrance Day (November 18th): This is a day where we remember and honor those who fought and died for Croatia's independence.
11. Christmas (December 25th and 26th): This is when we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ.
12. Independence Day (October 8th): This is a day where we celebrate Croatia's independence from Yugoslavia in 1991.
13. Victory Day and Homeland Thanksgiving Day (August 5th): This is a day where we remember and honor the military victory over Serbian aggression in 1995.
On these public holidays, schools and most businesses are closed so that we can spend time with our families and celebrate the special occasions together.
