ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Punchcutting

Punchcutting is like making a fancy shape with a cookie cutter. Imagine you have a big piece of metal and you use a very special tool called a punch to cut out a shape. But this is not just any shape, this is a very special shape that will be used to make letters for books or signs.

The punch is like a hammer that has a shape at the end, like a little letter "a" shape, for example. You use this special hammer to hit the metal and make a little letter "a" shape. You have to be very careful and hit it just right or else the shape won't come out right.

Once you have made all the different shapes, you can use them to make letters for books or signs. It's like having a bunch of fancy cookie cutters for every letter in the alphabet!
