ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Punjabi dialects

So, you know how people speak differently in different parts of the world? Even in the same country, people can speak differently because they have their own way of saying things.

Now, Punjabi is a language spoken by people in parts of India and Pakistan. But even within Punjabi, there are different ways of speaking it. These different ways are called dialects.

Think of Punjabi like a big musical instrument like a guitar. Just like you can use different strings to play different notes on the guitar, people from different regions of Punjab use different sounds to say the same words. So, even though they all speak Punjabi, they sound a bit different from each other.

Some of the Punjabi dialects include Majhi, Doabi, Malwai, and Pothohari. These dialects are based on the regions where they are spoken. People from different regions might have a hard time understanding each other if they have very different dialects.

So, just like how you might speak differently from your friends who live in another city, even Punjabi speakers have their own unique ways of speaking depending on where they're from.
