Puttandu is a really special festival that people in Tamil Nadu, India celebrate! It's also called Tamil New Year's Day. Tamil Nadu is a big part of India and it's where the Tamil people live.
Just like how you might celebrate New Year's Day on January 1st, Tamil people celebrate Puttandu on April 14th every year.
On this day, people clean their houses and they decorate them with special colorful drawings called kolams. They decorate with flowers like marigolds too.
Some people might wear new clothes, and they might get together with family and friends to eat a special meal. It's usually a yummy feast made up of lots of different dishes like rice, curries, and sweets. Sometimes, people might give gifts like fruit or money to each other too.
Puttandu is all about new beginnings and starting fresh. So it's a time to think about things you want to do in the future, and to celebrate all the good things that have happened in the past.
