Q-factor

Okay kiddo, have you ever ridden a bike with pedals before? Do you remember how your legs went up and down to move the pedals? This is where q-factor comes in!

Q-factor is the distance between your two pedals on the bike, measured from the outside edge of one pedal to the outside edge of the other. The wider the distance between your pedals, the higher your q-factor is.

Why does q-factor matter? Well, if the pedals are too close together, it can be uncomfortable for some people, especially those with wider hips. But if the pedals are too far apart, it can make pedaling more difficult and even cause discomfort in your knees.

So bike designers and manufacturers try to find the sweet spot between a comfortable distance for riders and an efficient pedaling motion. It's all about finding the right balance to make cycling as enjoyable and efficient as possible for everyone.

So next time you hop on your bike, take a look at your pedals and think about your q-factor!
