Qattara Depression Project

The Qattara Depression Project is a project to turn a large depression in the desert of Egypt into a big lake. The depression is called the Qattara Depression and it's really big - so big that it covers more than 4500 square miles! To turn it into a lake, they plan on using a special kind of pump to bring water from the Mediterranean Sea so it can fill up the depression. This project will be good for a lot of different reasons. First, it will create a lot of new jobs with people working to build the pumps and the lake. Second, it will also create energy - energy from the pumps moving the water, and from the difference in the temperatures of the warm water and the hot desert air. Finally, it will bring a lot of new water to the area, which will be great for people living nearby and for the plants and animals in the area.
