QuEChERS

Okay kiddo, so have you ever heard of pesticides? These are chemicals that farmers use to kill bugs and other pests that can damage their crops. But we don't want to eat these chemicals when we eat the fruits and vegetables, right?

That's where quEChERS come in! It's a way to remove pesticides from food so that it's safe for us to eat. QuEChERS stands for "quick, easy, cheap, effective, rugged, and safe."

Basically, what happens is that we take a sample of the food (let's say an apple) and mix it with a special solution called a solvent. This helps to break down the pesticides so we can remove them.

Then, we add some other things (like salts and more solvents) to the mixture to help separate the pesticides from the food. This is called extraction.

After that, we put the mixture through a special machine (like a filter) that separates the pesticides from the solvent.

And voila! The pesticides are removed and the food is safe to eat. It takes a little bit of work, but quEChERS is a very effective and important process to keep us healthy.
