ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Quantum Monte Carlo

Quantum Monte Carlo is a type of computer simulation. It uses mathematics to model the behavior of electrons and other particles. It tries to predict how these particles will act and react in different materials, and can be used to study things like how electricity moves through materials, or how light reacts when it hits them. In a quantum Monte Carlo simulation, the particles are treated as if they are tiny balls bouncing around, like a game of billiards. Each ball has a set of rules that determine how it moves, and how it interacts with the other balls. By studying how these balls move and react, the scientists can try to understand what is happening in the material they are studying.
