Queer Theory is a way of looking at the world that questions and challenges gender stereotypes and expectations. Instead of thinking of gender as something that is fixed and determined by our sex—being either male or female—Queer Theory encourages us to think of gender as having many possibilities, and not just ones that have been socially accepted in the past. Queer Theory asks us to think of gender in more creative and flexible ways, and to explore how we can create new kinds of gender expressions that will make the world freer and more open to everybody.
