ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

RAE Larynx

The larynx is a body part in your throat that helps you talk and breathe. It's also called the voice box and it sits at the top of your windpipe. When you speak, air goes into your lungs and then comes out through your larynx. Your vocal cords are in the larynx and they vibrate when air goes through them. This makes sound and you can use your mouth and tongue to shape the sound into words. When you sing, you use your larynx to make different pitches or tones. Sometimes, people can have problems with their larynx and may need medical treatment.
