Racialization

Racialization is when people decide which groups of people are a certain race, like black or white. For example, someone might decide that people with a certain skin color, eye color, hair color, or other physical characteristics are a certain race. It’s about deciding who is part of a certain racial group and who isn’t. Even if someone doesn’t think something is about race, it might still be about race because of the way that people have been racialized. This can lead to unfair treatment of certain people.
