Radio-frequency identification

Radio-frequency identification (RFID) is like a special scanner that can read information from things that have tiny chips attached to them. The chips send out a radio signal that the scanner can pick up. This radio signal can hold a code that helps the scanner identify what the chip is connected to. When something is "chipped", it can be scanned with an RFID scanner, which reads the chip and finds out what it is. This might be useful in stores, when checking out items, because the scanner can tell what the items are without you having to scan a barcode. It can also be used in hospitals, to help track patients and their records, or to help track lost pets and items.
