ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Railroad plough

Have you ever played with a snowplow and pushed the snow out of the way on the ground? A railroad plough is just like that but for trains!

You know how trains move on tracks, right? Sometimes the tracks can get all covered with snow or ice, which can make it hard for the train to move along. That's where a plough comes in handy!

A plough for a train is like a big blade that can push the snow out of the way as the train moves forward. It's attached to the front of the train and it scrapes the snow off the tracks as the train goes along.

Some ploughs are big and strong enough to even clear the tracks of fallen trees or other debris. This way, the train can keep moving smoothly along its journey without getting stuck or delayed.

So, just think of a railroad plough as a big snowplow for trains!
